Meet Our New Summer Staff!

MCA is thrilled to welcome Kathleen Murphy and Jenica Sul to our team for the summer!

Kathleen and Jenica will be working in the office, providing digital and administrative support for our choral music library digitizing project and other duties as time permits.

Kathleen is a mezzo-soprano, born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She recently completed a Post-Bacc in Vocal Performance under the mentorship of Mel Braun at the University of Manitoba, after obtaining her Bachelor of Music.

Kathleen has had a passion for music and choral singing from a young age, beginning with Pembina Trails Voices Choirs throughout her youth. During her years at university, she sang with the University of Manitoba Cantata Singers, University Singers, and Women’s Chorus. She also performed multiple roles with the University of Manitoba Opera Theatre Ensemble. More recently, she has enjoyed singing with Dead of Winter and is currently the alto soloist and section lead with Young United Church Choir, under the direction of Lottie Enns-Braun.

Kathleen enjoys meeting other choristers who share her joy for singing and connecting with others in the music community. Kathleen was the inaugural recipient of the Manitoba Choral Association’s David. G.H. Waters Hymn Sing Award in 2020, and now looks forward to serving the Manitoba choral community in her new position.

Jenica is a student at Canadian Mennonite University in Winnipeg. She is entering into her fourth year of studies with a major in Psychology and a minor in English. She is hoping to graduate with her Bachelor of Arts in December of 2023, and is aiming to pursue a Master’s degree in Counselling afterwards.

In her free time, Jenica enjoys playing Dungeons & Dragons, figure skating, and doing hand embroidery. In general, has been a large part of Jenica’s entire life, but no area of music has been more impactful than that of choral music. Having participated in her high school’s SATB choir and SATB vocal jazz ensemble, her university’s SA choir, and a regional SATB youth choir, Jenica has had numerous experiences with choir in Manitoba. These various choral endeavors have given her a variety of opportunities including performances at the Centennial Concert Hall. She is greatly looking forward to working in a way that directly benefits Manitoba’s choral community.

Please join us in welcoming Kathleen and Jenica to the MCA team!
