MCA is pleased to announce that the 2022 Bert Kroeker Scholarship has been awarded to Emily Gayleard.
Emily is an up-and-coming early years music educator entering the first year of her education degree at the University of Manitoba. Although she completed her Bachelor of Music as a euphonium major, Emily’s love of choral music was ignited during her years singing in the University of Manitoba Concert Choir. With the mentorship of Dr. Catherine Robbins, Emily deepened her understanding of vocal techniques, pedagogy, and choral music.
As a Red River Metis woman, Emily is passionate about giving back to the young people in her community. Emily has a breadth of leadership experience: from working with children at the Selkirk Friendship Centre Daycare, to teaching at Pembina Trails Ignite3 Summer Program, to serving on the University of Manitoba's Faculty of Music Students’ Association, Emily always brings the laughter and the music. Emily is excited to enter her education practicum, to grow as an educator, and to bring singing into the lives of as many students as possible.
