Awards of Distinction

MCA’s Awards of Distinction were established in 2020 to honour individuals, choirs, institutions, corporations, and programs in recognition of their valuable contributions to the choral community of Manitoba.

A limited number of each award are given out annually. Nominations by MCA members are accepted throughout the year. Candidates are selected by an appointed MCA Award Committee each June and recipients are honoured at MCA events, such as MB Sings, ChoralFest, and the Manitoba Choral Association Annual General Meeting.

MCA Award for Artistic Excellence

This award recognizes outstanding artistic achievement in choral music. Awards are presented to a choral conductor, singer, collaborative pianist or choir exhibiting artistic excellence, innovation, and significant leadership in the choral arts.

MCA Spirit Award

This award is presented annually to individuals, choirs, institutions, corporations, or programs for contributions to the choral arts in community, school, or church settings. Such contributions include outreach, service, education, diversity, sponsorship, or other significant advocacy work to the choral arts.

This award is given annually to recognize emerging artists within the first 5 years of their careers or existence in choral music in Manitoba. Awards are presented to an individual, choir, or program who inspires new projects, ideas, or displays artistic potential.
