Congratulations to our 2026 Bert Kroeker Scholarship Recipient!

MCA is pleased to announce that the 2026 Bert Kroeker Scholarship has been awarded to Sierra Fast. Sierra, who hails from Winkler, has just completed her third year of a concurrent music education degree at Brandon University. Her hope in becoming a music teacher is to create a space where ‘students can find refuge and expression', just like she did.
The Bert Kroeker Scholarship was established in 2006 in memory of long-time member and supporter of MCA, Bert Kroeker. Bert was the founder of ChoralFest in Manitoba and was a former president of Manitoba Choral Association as well. MCA awards this scholarship annually to students who are actively pursuing a career in choral music education.
Sierra Fast is going into her fourth year studying music education at Brandon University, specializing in senior years choral education.
Sierra’s love for music started very early in life. From listening to Taylor Swift on the radio, singing songs in Sunday school, and taking piano lessons, music filled her life. But a true passion for choir and choral singing began in high school. She participated in every choral group possible, including concert choir, vocal jazz, musical productions, and Central Manitoba Youth Choir. Through these opportunities she worked with many different conductors and teachers, and realized that the sense of community, passion, and joy that was present in choral singing was something she wanted to be a part of for life, leading to her enroll in the music education program at BU. Over her first three years studying there she has sang in the BU Concert Choir and BU Chorale ensembles.
Sierra is excited to be entering her fourth year and go out student teaching again in the spring. She looks forward to learning from the hands on classroom experience and continue working to create a welcoming, safe, and enjoyable space for her future students. She hopes that any child who enters her classes will be able to foster a love for music just as she has.

Music students who are studying music at a post-secondary institution (or have been accepted for the following fall semester) are eligible to apply for an MCA Scholarship.
