Manitoba Choral Association Produces MB Sings 2025

Updated: Jun 26

Iconic choral event brings singers from across the province together in song

WINNIPEG, Feb 3/25 – Manitoba Choral Association (MCA) gathered singers ages 10 and up from around The Singing Province at their annual flagship program, MB Sings, in February 2025. Now in its 41st year, the program is designed to bring together singers of all ages and experience levels from across Manitoba and beyond for an inspiring weekend of singing and community-building. The three-day event took place January 31-February 3 on Treaty 1 Territory at Gordon Bell High School (rehearsals) and Portage Avenue Church (finale concert) in Winnipeg.

Each year, MB Sings (formerly known as Provincial Honour Choirs) attracts 300 youth and adults from all over Manitoba and the surrounding regions to immerse themselves in the joy and pleasure of choral singing. Singers join one of three choirs (grouped by age) and participate in two days of intensive rehearsals learning fun and challenging repertoire. Then they share the music they learned with families and friends in a finale concert.

Singers come back year after year to MB Sings because of the impact the program has had on their lives. It is a unique experience to gather for a short-term and engage in community music-making with high-level instruction. For some, it is their only chance to make music with a large diverse group of singers from the choral community. As one 2025 participant said, "I look forward to it every year." Another shared, "Like a breath of fresh air. A soul enriching experience."

The 2025 MB Sings program ran Friday, January 31 to Sunday, February 3 and welcomed guest conductors: Justin Odwak (Winnipeg, MB), Dr. Tracy Wong (Toronto, ON), and Dr. Janet Brenneman (Winnipeg, MB). Rehearsals were held at Gordon Bell High School (Winnipeg) Friday evening and all day Saturday. On Saturday evening, singers and their families participated in “Saturday Night Live”, an event that also featured a headliner performance from local professional ensemble, THOSE GUYS, which includes MB Sings alumni, and many incredible musical acts from the MB Sings singers.

On Sunday afternoon, the singers took to the stage to present a final concert and share what their music with family and friends. This year's sold out finale concert held at Portage Avenue Church (Winnipeg) began with an honour song by Jordan Bighorn and closed with a mass choir piece (sung by choristers from all three choirs) written & directed by guest conductor, Dr. Tracy Wong. The concert was also available via livestream for those who could not attend in person. You can find each song available for listening on our YouTube channel.
