The Manitoba Choral Association Board of Directors is delighted to welcome Karla Ferguson as the organization's new Executive Director, starting full time on May 26, 2025.

With over 25 years of experience in not-for-profit management, event coordination, and community building Karla has a deep and personal connection to choral music in Manitoba and across Canada. For near two decades, Karla has worked with the Winnipeg Folk Festival, most recently as Volunteer Resources Manager. Under her leadership, they engaged 2,500 volunteers, achieved numerous technological advances, and began initiatives focused on inclusion and safer spaces.

“Our choral community will be immensely strengthened and energized by Karla’s leadership skills and passion for the choral arts,” says President Naomi Russell. “She brings with her a deep knowledge of governance and not-for-profit management, but more importantly, she has been a lifelong choral musician with roots in all levels of choir experiences. Her vision to build community will extend beyond our borders given her deep connections across the country. We are so fortunate to be welcoming a passionate leader who will help us continue and further our mission to champion diverse voices and foster inclusive communities.”

A graduate of Brandon University’s School of Music, Karla is a founding member of the Canadian Chamber Choir and das Femmes. She has extensive performance experience as a soloist and ensemble singer with the Elmer Iseler Singers, Canzona, Polycoro, Dead of Winter, and Proximus 5, among others. From fostering national networks to shaping equity-focused programming, Karla's work bridges artistic excellence with a commitment to sound management and to community.

"I have personally benefited from the impact that the Manitoba Choral Association makes on our singing community - strengthening connections across communities, championing diverse voices, and supporting choirs at every stage. I am honoured to bring my skills, experience and passion to help shape the next chapter of MCA's story."
