After over two years of cancelled or modified programming due to the pandemic, choirs are eager to lift up their voices together in song once again! To celebrate this much-anticipated return to in-person choral singing, MCA will host GATHER, an outdoor choral festival at the Lyric Theatre on Saturday, October 1, 2022.

The festival will feature performances of Manitoba choirs and vocal ensembles, musical acts, workshops for singers, and opportunities for reconnecting with community members. Attendees will also have the opportunity to sample food and drink from food trucks, peruse crafts and products in the local artisan market, and flex their creative muscles in spaces devoted to making art.

We invite everyone in the Manitoba choral community and beyond to bring their lawn chairs or blankets to the park and celebrate with us in person at this exciting event!

Come one, come all: we invite choirs from all over Manitoba to participate in the festival! Choirs and singing groups of all backgrounds, music styles, skills levels, and voice parts are welcome to apply. There is no fee to apply, but choirs must be MCA members to perform in the festival. If your choir is not a current MCA member, you must commit to renewing your choir's membership for 2022-23 by September 15.

Each choir will be allotted no more than 15 minutes for their performance. Choirs will be asked to confirm chorister numbers and provide a set list which includes their song run times no later than September 15.

Risers, electric piano, a kit, an amp, and up to 16 mics will be provided. Choirs are responsible for bringing in any extra instruments for their performance.

To ensure that all choirs have an audience to perform for (and to maximize on the fun!) we ask that all performing choirs make every effort to participate in the entire day of activities.

NOTE: Spots are limited, and to ensure a balance of choir type and region are represented at the festival, all choirs that apply to participate may not be chosen.

The deadline to apply is June 30.

Choirs will be notified of their acceptance into the festival no later than July 15, 2022.

The festival will be held at the Lyric Theatre in beautiful Assiniboine Park, Winnipeg. In case of rain or adverse weather, we will move down the road to Canadian Mennonite University.

There are washrooms located on site.

The Lyric Theatre stage is covered and is fully accessible for performers with accessibility needs. Choirs should indicate any accessibility needs on their application form.

ASL interpretation will be provided for the finale performance of the day.
